How much do we know about Stonehenge? Less than we think. And what has Stonehenge got to do with the Ice Age? More than we might think. This blog is mostly devoted to the problems of where the Stonehenge bluestones came from, and how they got from their source areas to the monument. Now and then I will muse on related Stonehenge topics which have an Ice Age dimension...

Gros Morne National Park
This is a fabulous image from the Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland -- a fabulous fjord cut into a plateau, somewhat similar to the situation of Sognefjord in Norway. What intrigues me here is the amount of scree that has accumulated to mask the lower parts of the fjord walls. Much more than in the Norwegian fjords. I wonder why? It must have something to do with the local geology, since the times of peak glaciation and then ice retreat were broadly similar in both places.
