Funny what you find.....
Funny what you find.........
I was googling for East Greenland glaciers (as one does) and blow me -- this came up on the first page of images. It's a sort of montage of arctic poppies and me and my friends (that's me in the front) skiing on Oxford Gletscher (yes, we named it) in 1962, during the Oxford University Expedition to East Greenland. My God, that's almost 50 years ago......
It's used, I think, as a "signature" for a YouTube video made from slides of the expedition -- mostly taken by David Sugden and assembled and turned into a little film by his brother Chris.
Here is the video (which comes with a health warning. If you work for the Health and Safety Executive, please do NOT watch these pictures of young men doing extremely silly things and breaking every rule in the safety handbook......). The music is very soothing.

Yes, it was truly amazing! I looked at the expedition report the other day -- and the whole expedition cost £3,027 -- including flights out, DC3 charter flights, and sea journey home from Scoresbysund. Those were the days......
