So there we have it. After selling the "Waun Mawn Giant Circle" to the media with ever-increasing enthusiasm over the past few years, MPP has at last admitted it was all nonsense.
In the Interim Report of the 2021 digging season (sent out to all of the dig volunteers) he confirms what I reported back in September 2021 -- namely that nothing of any interest was found which would allow Waun Mawn to be viewed as anything exceptional. The digs at Waun Mawn and Gernos-fach confirm what we all knew already -- that there was prehistoric activity in this area in the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze age, and that megaliths were used in a variety of stone settings. The evidence uncovered also demonstrates that there is nothing whatsoever here to link Waun Mawn in any way with Stonehenge, or with the imaginary "bluestone quarries" at Rhosyfelin and Carn Goedog.
The Report is published, and is in the public domain, so if any fellow blogger wants a copy you can probably get it by writing to Prof Mike Parker Pearson at UCL. He is very keen to share his research findings with the world, and will be delighted to hear from you.
Notwithstanding any of the above, this new Interim Report is just as appalling as all the earlier ones associated with this project, so filled with bias, over-interpretation and fantasy that one hardly knows where to start.....
I shall read it carefully and do another post.

I hope Alice R has now seen the error of her ways, having being lured out to Waun Maun by this man with a large pretext.....
ReplyDeleteThe Smiths made a renowned record complete with video entitled "This Charming Man" Will MPP do a cover version?
ReplyDeleteDifficult to evaluate if the paper's not formally available. Looking forward to seeing your summary.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love you, but dox'ing an email address isn't cool, buddy.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a private address -- it's freely available on the web for anybody who wants to look for it. It's an academic convention that all academics -- even quite senior ones -- publish their addresses and deal with enquiries and requests for information. Quite right too.
ReplyDelete........ but if there are sensitivities here, no problem. I have removed the Email address -- people can dig it out for themselves easily enough.
