Tim's Long Barrow opens for business
Tim's long barrow is open for business -- and if you want to take a look, get over there right now!! More info here on the BBC web site:
I was on Salisbury Plain - a glorious autumn afternoon today with an Archaeology Conservation Group and Tim's name cropped up in chats about parch marks at You - Know - Where. Tim's colleague, Steve, also involved with Stonehenge, was with us. Drove past Boles Barrow, whence a blue stone or two may well have been taken to Heytesbury 200 years ago, and we were all surprised to see it looking very well maintained, considering the ravages of time, antiquaries and the Army's activities.

Correction: Tim Daw's colleague I believe is called Simon, not Steve.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this Tim and associates. It is great adventure. I hope to visit some time.
ReplyDeleteChris -- preferably while you are still alive?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely while I am alive.
ReplyDeleteI have given instructions where my ashes are to be scattered when the time comes.
Personally I never thought long barrows were primarily funerial, but each to his own.
So I am curious to see how a group that knows a thing or two about long barrows would actually construct one today.
You can check in anytime you like.....
ReplyDeleteBut you can never leave...
