Thanks to Mike Pitts for letting me know about this new work at Boles Barrow, clearly led by Richard Osgood, senior archaeologist at the MOD. Apparently the work was part of "Operation Nightingale", and the dig was done in late summer 2022. It's a messy and rather decrepit site, apparently greatly damaged because it is located on MOD land. A talk is being organized by Salisbury Museum in April.
Retired County Archaeologist Roy Canham was instrumental in ensuring the MOD cooperated with the former Wiltshire County Council, and indeed obtained a British Empire medal for his efforts, including his input into the area Conservation Groups for Salisbury Plain Training Area. He is still active with the Bradford on Avon Museum Research Group e g its Lidar research on the plateau above that town.
