Tim Darvill on Pembrokeshire megaliths

Rumour has it that at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Archaeology Day this year, on Nov 20th, there will be no contribution from Prof MPP.  There will, however, be a talk from Prof Tim Darvill on the Pembrokeshire megaliths.

Maybe there is a feeling that the punters over the past few years have had enough of fantasies, and need something a bit more solid for a change?  In any case, from what we have been able to discover, nothing of any interest was discovered at Waun Mawn in September, so I suspect that reality is beginning to kick in...... which means that MPP is best advised to keep a low profile for the time being.

  1. Very nice photograph of the closed chamber tomb or cromlech of Carreg Samson near Trevine, between Fishguard and St Davids. My brother lives nearby.

  2. Correct! I gather that Tim Darvill will be giving a general update on the megalithic structures of Pembrokeshire. I'll hazard a guess and say that he will probably do a bit of debunking on the infamous "lost circle" of Waun Mawn. He has already said that he doesn't think the so-called sockets are deep enough to be called sockets...........

  3. ........yes, I know! And I pointed out what you say to a Durham University - trained archaeologist who seems to be a blindly devoted Parker Pearson Believer. I think you also commented on that Post.

  5. Bad idea to schedule anything on a day that had wall to wall rugby........

  6. Hey Brian, did you see Tim's talk? I was wondering what you thought of it in the end?

  7. No -- I didn't see it. Is there a link to it? I am aware that he is not at all impressed with all the palaver relating to Waun Mawn -- he is on the record as not really believing that there ever was a "lost stone circle" there.......
