The Carn Afr sheepfold

This is a well-defined feature (grid ref SN 093302) on the edge of the common, overlooked by the spectacular tor of Carn Afr.  It's in a dry and well-sheltered location, and this has helped its survival.  There is an abundant stone supply in the adjacent rockfall debris at the foot of the tor -- availability of stone is always an important factor.

There are two cells and it is a "stand alone" feature with no guiding walls.

It may be up to 300 years old, and because the wall are still in a reasonable state of repair I suspect it might have been in use within living memory.
