Digging then and digging now

Two photos from the album, one from 1913 and the other from 2015.  The black and white one is from an old post-card.

Ah -- how times have changed -- or have they?

  1. Crikey, is that a WILD GOOSE on the 1913 postcard??

Times certainly haven't changed much. the 2015 photo shows a Wild Goose Chase actually in process........

  2. Them "good old boys" posing in the 1913 postcard, on closer inspection, were actually "very naughty boys", and certainly should have been told they weren't coming out to play that day.

As for the 'Wrecking Crew' (check that one on Google) of 2015, I think most of us on this blog have similar opinions. That WAS was a very special landscape before they arrived.

  3. They were indeed very naughty boys -- Charles Dawson is the one sitting on the left.

Re the wrecking of the landscape, we did at least manage to get the site designated as a RIGS on the grounds of its geological and geomorphological interest. So it now has a degree of protection. There was a lot of blocking behind the scenes -- certain people wanted it to be designated an ancient monument, as a Neolithic quarry.......
