How much do we know about Stonehenge? Less than we think. And what has Stonehenge got to do with the Ice Age? More than we might think. This blog is mostly devoted to the problems of where the Stonehenge bluestones came from, and how they got from their source areas to the monument. Now and then I will muse on related Stonehenge topics which have an Ice Age dimension...

Poulnabrone dolmen, Ireland
Thought I'd share this -- from my one and only visit to Poulnabrone, many years ago. Nice dolmen -- sorry about my lack of respect, for those who are appalled at such behaviour.......
Yes, strange things happen at cromlechs / dolmens. There are reputed to be fairies dancing in the moonlight at Pentre Ifan -- never seen them personally. One time when I went there at dusk I encountered a very strange fellow sitting under the capstone, playing his didgeridoo......... I'm still not sure whether that really did happen, or whether it was all a dream.....
Yes I think they died out in one of the harsh winters a few years ago. They lived near Matlock- hell hole of the Peaks (I did my post grad research on Masson Hill, Matlock)It may be lovely now (doubt it-as is now full of antique shoppes)Matlock not Masson Hill that I now a reserve and all my exposures are covered and landscaped -cannot be second guessed. They also lived near Leek The Roaches?? M
Awaiting to be whisked off with the faeries?
ReplyDeleteCould be worse you could have been mooning
