Another sad photo
Following my publication of that sad photo of the Druid, the Heelstone and the Barbed Wire the other day, I came across another from the 1958 collection. Richard Atkinson certainly had an eye for a good shot....
I do find this one rather sad too -- it makes me think of a dead blue shark being lifted out of the ocean..... but I suppose that more to the point, it is a reminder of the intrusion of the modern mechanized world into the world of our Neolithic ancestors. However clever the builders of the monument may or may not have been, this is also a reminder of the way in which Stonehenge has been "repaired" and manufactured as a Great British Icon. I suppose the Druids are not the only people to share my regret about that....
